When you finally get your Blackstone assembled and ready to fire up, it doesn’t take long to realize that you’ll need more than just excitement and ingredients. Having the right tools makes flat top cooking easier, cleaner, and way more enjoyable. In this guide, I’ll walk through the essential utensils and accessories I use almost every time I cook, and why they matter.
Flat top cooking was foreign to me at first. I came from the world of gas and charcoal grills—never a smooth cooktop—so I spent a lot of time researching, asking questions, and learning through trial and error. The good news is: you don’t have to. Everything you need to get started is right here.
The Best Blackstone Tools to Get You Started
If you’ve read my previous articles (and I hope you have), you already know that choosing the right oil is one of the most important parts of Blackstone cooking. But today we’re not talking about oil—we’re talking about how to actually get it on the surface.
Squeeze Bottles (Squared)
These square oil bottles are my go-to. The shape gives a great grip, and the material strikes a perfect balance between sturdy and flexible. Oil doesn’t shoot out uncontrollably, and you don’t have to wrestle with the bottle to get a good drizzle.

32oz Squeeze Bottles (Round)
For water, I prefer the larger cylindrical bottles. They’re just as easy to handle, and they have the perfect amount of flex when you need to use water for steam, cleanup, or temperature control.
Pro Tip: These bottles also work well for a quick hand rinse when switching between handling meats and vegetables. Warm water and soap are always best, but this method helps in a pinch during an active cook.

Accessory Kit (Spatulas, Scraper, Food Mover)
Blackstone sells its own utensils, and they’re widely available. I own a few, but the most reliable set I’ve purchased so far is this 26-piece accessory kit from Kesfit. The spatulas are sturdy, the food mover is excellent, and everything has held up through repeated use.
My biggest criticism of the official Blackstone spatulas is that the metal bends too easily when scraping edges. The Kesfit set doesn’t have that issue, and the stainless steel finish keeps rust away.
The only “con” is that the kit includes a few accessories I personally never use (like the egg molds).

Silicone Egg Molds
These silicone egg molds are a lifesaver for breakfast cooks. Just set the mold on the griddle, crack an egg into it, and cook to your preference. You can also pour in beaten eggs for a scrambled egg patty.
Pro Tip: If you’re pouring in scrambled eggs, press the bottom of your spatula onto the top of the mold for 10 seconds to prevent the eggs from escaping underneath.

Grease Cup Liners
Your Blackstone probably came with grease cup liners, but if you cook often, you’ll run through them quickly. These liners prevent the actual grease cup from filling up with what looks like the world’s worst frosting.
I check my grease cup before and after every cook—it’s a simple habit that prevents messy surprises.
Pro Tip: When replacing a liner, put a few paper towels into a plastic bag, drop the used liner in, and tie it off before tossing it. This keeps your trash clean and prevents lingering smells.
Caution: Never replace a grease liner while the cooktop is hot. The liner and the grease inside get extremely hot.

Stainless Steel Seasoning Shakers
You’ll use salt and pepper constantly on a Blackstone. These stainless steel shakers are durable, easy to clean, and large enough (10oz) to hold plenty of seasoning mix.
Pro Tip: I like to mix a 2:1:1 ratio of salt, pepper, and garlic salt for a balanced all-purpose blend.
Pro Tip #2: Always bring the shakers inside when you’re done cooking. Big temperature swings can make the lids difficult to remove later.

Silicone Side Shelf Mat
This silicone mat fits the Blackstone side shelves perfectly. It keeps utensils, bowls, and tools off the bare shelf and makes cleanup simple.
Pro Tip: After cooking, place the mat on top of the closed lid before putting the cover on. You’ll never lose track of it.

Cleaning and Maintenance Tools
Once the cooking is done, cleaning and seasoning your griddle is one of the most important parts of keeping it ready for next time. This prevents rust, preserves the seasoning layer, and saves you from having to do emergency cleanup when you just want to cook.
Cleaning Kit
I use a scraper to push excess food into the grease trap, followed by a scouring pad or pumice stone depending on the situation. The accessory kit I mentioned above includes a scraper, but this cleaning kit also works well.
Pro Tip: Use scouring pads on a cool surface. Using them on a hot griddle can shed fibers and make cleanup harder.

Griddle Seasoning
After scraping and cleaning, I apply a thin coat of griddle seasoning with the surface still hot. About two tablespoons is perfect, but you can adjust based on the size of your griddle.
Pro Tip: Use steady pressure and go in one direction with the pumice stone if you need to smooth out the surface. Don’t scrub back and forth—that can remove the seasoning layer you’ve been building up.

Griddle Cover
If you’ve put all this work into seasoning and maintaining your Blackstone, you’ll want to protect it. A cover prevents moisture and cold, dense air from damaging the cooking surface. Whether you have a hinged lid or a standard flat top, a cover makes a big difference in the long-term care of the griddle.
